Increasing Impact in Scholarly Research

Learning goal and objectives:
This doctoral seminar is designed specifically for PhD students in business to focus on the importance of designing and implementing impactful scholarly research. The seminar aims to help students with developing the skills and knowledge necessary to conduct research that (a) not only is aligned with state-of-the-art research in premier business journals (e.g., FT50 / UTD), but (b) also is designed to engage with stakeholders to help generate positive change and influence beyond academia, including societal, economic, or environmental impact.
This seminar aims to guide and support students with making their research relevant and applicable to real-world challenges, to help inform approaches for businesses to positively impact society while also working toward their business objectives. Against this background, key aspects of this seminar include topics such as understanding research impact, working with research stakeholders, designing research with impact in mind, and identifying funding opportunities for impactful research.
Instruction and examination:
The course will be comprised of seminar style discussion and exercises. Students will be evaluated based on their contributions to seminar discussions and activities, including individual and group tasks.
Credits: 5 ECTS Credits
Grading: Assignments will be evaluated using a five-level grading scale (1-5): sufficient, satisfactory, good, very good, excellent.

25 students will be admitted to the course. While there are no prerequisites, please note that the course has been designed for full-time doctoral students and junior faculty in Business-related disciplines. Please also note that while there is no course fee, we are unable to provide travel or accommodation assistance. Students will be responsible for their own meals.
