Publishing in logistics and supply chain management
Time: August 4-6 (Monday-Wednesday), 2025
Place: School of Marketing and Communication, University of Vaasa, Vaasa.
Learning goal and objectives: The course aims doctoral students to improve their papers for journal submissions. Course consists of lectures and small group sessions. During the course editors and members of the editorial board will lecture on the topics such as strategies for publishing, journals’ editorial policies, the publication process, submission, responding to reviews, and the resubmission process. The course is intended for doctoral students who have progressed well in writing their dissertations and aim to enhance the quality of their papers to meet the standards of international academic journals. Target journals are, for example, Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, Journal of Supply Chain Management, International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management (IJPDLM), Journal of Business Logistics, Logistics Research, Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management, and Journal of Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Management (JHLSCM).
Course consists of lectures and small group sessions. Course participants are required to prepare edited versions of their papers prior to the course. These papers will be assigned to the teachers, who will act as tutors and discussants for the papers during the course. In small group sessions, participants will receive feedback on their papers and each of the participants will create a plan to develop their papers to a level suitable for journal submission. Additional assignments will also be given during the course. The key learning objective of the course is to support doctoral students in their writing process, helping them improve their papers towards publishable standard for international peer-reviewed academic journals.
Target group: Doctoral students who are progressed well in writing of their doctoral dissertation. Prerequisite is a good quality full paper (maybe one you have presented or that has been accepted to a conference, or another).
Instruction and examination:
Course consists of lectures and small group sessions. Course participants will prepare an edited version from their paper prior to the course. During the course they will get feedback to their papers from the teachers, and they will create a plan to develop their papers to a level suitable for journal submission. There are also other assignments given during the course.
Doctoral students interested in participating in the course need to apply for the course. Deadline for application: June 1, 2025.

Manuscript has to include your name and contact information, and Emerald style structured abstract in the first page of the manuscript.
Only students that have sent their application with information asked below, and included their manuscripts with structured abstract by the deadline will be considered. Decisions are made based on the quality of the manuscripts.

Grading: Passed/failed.
Prerequisites: Doctoral students who are progressed well in their writing stage of doctoral dissertation.
Admittance: Max. 20 – 25 participants, preferably from the field of the Logistics and Supply Chain management Graduate School and KATAJA. Other doctoral students from related fields are also welcomed to apply, also from other countries. Participants will be selected based on the quality of the manuscript. There is no fee for participation, however students are required to pay their own travel and accommodation expenses.
